Libertea Tea FAQs

1. Where are your teas come from?

At Libertea we search for the best teas from across the globe. Different regions specialize in particular varieties and flavors will differ between tea growing areas. Some of our teas are single origin from China, Japan, India and Sri Lanka, while others are specially blended with the best ingredients from different locations abroad and in Australia.

2. How long do your teas last?

Teas typically have a long shelf life if stored properly. While they do not technically go off, they can go stale. The freshness can vary somewhat between tea varieties. Some teas (such as puerh tea) would improve complexity with age while others (such as green tea) tend to be less flavorsome over time.

3. How should I store your teas?

Generally speaking, teas are best stored in a cool, dry, dark place, in an airtight container preferably away from strong odors.

If your green tea is in an unopened, vacuum sealed package, you can store it in the fridge to preserve its freshness. For pressed puerh cakes, they should be allowed to breath to enhance their flavour profile.

4. Do you add anything in your teas?

At Libertea, we allow the ingredients to speak for themselves. We do not include artificially enhanced tea blends with added sugar or artificial flavourings.

5. Are your teas organic certified?

While we do stock some organic range, our focus is on finding the best ingredients and flavour. Unfortunately some of the best teas are from regions where organic certification is likely to be difficult.

6. Which is your healthiest tea?

All teas come from the same plant. Judging solely on antioxidant level, white tea contains the highest dose. Matcha is also gaining attention among health enthusiasts because the whole leaf is consumed, it provides 10 times as many antioxidants as infused green tea. On the other hand, puerh tea is believed to lower blood fat and bad cholesterol.

However, whichever tea your tastebuds fancy, be that a crisp green or a smoky black, it provides similar health benefits with regular consumption.

7. How much cafferine does tea contain?

Generally speaking, one cup of black tea has ¼ of the caffeine that you may have in a cup of coffee. The antioxidants in tea slow down the rate at which caffeine enters your bloodstream.  This means that you can enjoy your tea more often. You may feel a sense of mental clarity and alertness instead of the periodic adrenaline rush after drinking coffee.

8. Do you sell teabags?

At Libertea we do not sell teabags as our focus is on tea quality. We know that often lower quality leaves end up in teabags and teabags are made with bleach paper or plastic (they are typically the high end teabags in pyramid shades). It is not necessarily something that you want to put in hot water and then drink!

Lastly, tea leaves need room to unfold and develop their flavors. This helps them release thier effective ingredients and full flavour profile. Even if you put good leaves in teabags, they do not taste as good. That is why we, Libertea, only sell "free leaves" and a range of tea instruments to help you make the most of your tea.

9. Do you have any normal tea...?!

Absolutely! And we are guessing you mean our breakfast and afternoon range, which are designed to be drunk with milk.

10. What is your flavour tea?

At the moment, we are loving our Jade Tieguanyin, also known as Iron Buddhas Oolong.
